Last week we proudly held our first event in over 15 months - two open days at Websters Farm in Ormskirk, Lancashire on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th May. In an outdoor setting and keeping the numbers small to adhere to government restrictions and to remain COVID secure, it was lovely to once again return to face-to-face meetings.
The Webster family have been users of alkasystems technology for over twenty years and are great ambassadors for Home n' Dry and its associated technology. They have produced Alkagrain 150 for use in Dugdale Nutrition compound feeds for the last four years, along with Alkagrain 30 which is sold direct to farm, either through DN or direct.
The weather was kind to us over the two days as we welcomed merchants, contractors and farmers to the impressive set up at Websters Farm. Whilst guests enjoyed the refreshments provided by the wonderful staff in the farm shop, Matthew Dugdale, MD of Dugdale Nutrition, began with an introduction highlighting the positive changes that have been made since DN acquired the remaining 50% share capital of FiveF Alka Ltd in late February 2021.
This was followed by Operations Director, Matthew Tickle, talking the guests through a live demonstration of Alkagrain 150 being mixed by Andrew, Greg and Roger. We then moved into one of the large buildings to view the freshly mixed Alkagrain and answer any questions guests had.
Home n' Dry UK Agents, Rob Smith & Rob Cockroft then held a talk on Alkalage, talking through the process, do's & don'ts and having a closer look at the Websters' forage. They explained the benefits of incorporating Alkalage into a balanced diet and how it can improve rumen health and animal performance.
Moving on next to see the cattle, which are all sold through the on-site farm shop, guests were then able to see the physical quality, temperaments and cleanliness of alka-fed animals. Andrew and Roger Webster spoke to guests about their feeding and finishing process, why they have used alkasystems technology for so long and why it works so well for them.
Finally, we ended with a question and answer session in the Alkagrain 30 building, allowing guests to get further insight into any of the elements they had viewed throughout the tour.
