Three days of manufacturing insight, technical knowledge and practical farm visits
Dugdale Nutrition recently welcomed representatives from Norwegian ruminant feed business Strand Unikorn, a longstanding Home n’ Dry customer, for a three-day visit to the UK. The programme was designed to strengthen relationships, share technical knowledge and demonstrate the full story behind Home n’ Dry.
The itinerary combined manufacturing and mill tours, presentations from the Dugdale Nutrition team, and visits to farms using Alkasystems technology. This gave the group a comprehensive view of the people, production processes, supply chain and practical farming systems behind Home n’ Dry.
Day One: Behind the scenes at the mills
The visit began at Dugdale Nutrition’s Speke Mill. Following lunch, international agent Paul Sayle delivered an Alkasystems presentation, sharing the science behind the technology and its role within modern ruminant feeding systems.
The visitors also received presentations from the Dugdale Nutrition team covering the company’s background and explaining the processes behind Home n’ Dry production. A tour of Speke Mill then allowed the group to see the manufacturing operation first-hand and gain further insight into the processes involved in producing Home n’ Dry.
The group continued to our Clitheroe site for a further mill tour, adding another perspective on the facilities and expertise supporting the business.
Day Two: Alkasystems technology on Cumbrian farms
The second day took the group to Cumbria to visit three progressive farms that have successfully embraced Alkasystems technology within their feeding programmes.
The first stop was to Mark & Sarah Musgrave and a tour of their superb dairy farm, followed by lunch at The Greenhill Hotel. The afternoon continued with visits to William & Emma Miller and Ian & Nathan Grainger to view their impressive beef units.
Across the three visits, the Strand Unikorn team could discuss how the technology is applied in practical farm settings and hear directly about feeding approaches. The day supported valuable conversations about farm systems and the application of alkasystems technology both in the UK and Norway. Conversations centred on feeding strategy, herd performance, forage utilisation and the role of alkalised feeding in supporting efficient and productive dairy and beef systems.
Day Three: The Webster family enterprise
On the final day, the group visited the Webster family’s enterprise, Taylors Grain Farm Services and Taylors Farm Shop.
The tour provided an opportunity to see the family’s integrated approach, where cattle are reared using cereals grown on the farm, helping them maintain control from field to fork. The resulting livestock and meat are sold through the family’s hugely successful farm shop.
The visit concluded with lunch and a review of the three-day programme, giving both teams time to reflect on the manufacturing, technical and on-farm insights shared during the trip.
Strengthening International Partnerships
By following the Home n’ Dry journey from production and milling through to practical use on farm, the Strand Unikorn team gained a rounded view of the proposition and the people behind it.
The three-day visit reinforced the value of collaboration between Dugdale Nutrition and its international partners.
